Being diagnosed with a potentially terminal disease has caused me to make eye contact with death. It’s not a pleasant experience, and one that most of us avoid as long as possible. Few in our death-defying culture want to face their mortality.
An attorney friend of mine has written some great materials to help older people plan for death and younger people prepare for new fiduciary responsibilities. One tool he’s compiled to drive home the reality that life comes with an expiration date is a Death Calendar. It has the sobering caption, “These Notable People Never Thought They Would Die Either…”
Flip through the pages. Here you will find the rich, the powerful, the famous—the deceased. No date is blank,
“… for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart.” – Ecclesiastes 7:2
