Susan Bea Hamel
April 12, 1954 – November 24, 2011

Susan was born in Bombay, India, on April 12, 1954. As the daughter of missionaries, she lived in several places including Camp Elim in Woodland Park, Colorado. She met Mike while he was volunteering at Family Life Services in Colorado Springs. They got engaged in Garden of the Gods and were married at Southside Bible Chapel on February 9, 1974 before moving to Denver.

Five years later, the family moved and lived in Portland, Oregon, for nine years, the Wheaton, Illinois, area for five years, and San Jose for a year. The Hamels moved back to Colorado Springs in 1996. Susan worked with Life Network for 14 years, serving as the Director of the Colorado Springs Pregnancy Center for the last 12 years.

Susan was wife to Mike, sister to Linda, Janet, Ruth and Thomas. She was mother to Aaron, Nate, Matt and Julie. She was ‘Nana’ to Betti, Jason, Emma, Manny, Zack and Eli. She was an advocate for unborn children and an example of Christ’s love to all she met.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Life Network.

  1. Mike,
My hearts is breaking with yours. I can’t fathom the pain you are experiencing. You and the family are in my prayers for God to break through and somehow bring comfort and sense to His taking Susan home.

  2. Gracious and winsome, she had the ability to make everyone she met feel like they’d known her for years. She’ll be greatly missed. We’re praying for you, the kids and grandkids; would that there were a way to extend hugs through the ether as well!

  3. Mike, we’ve both known the joys of having a wonderful, loving spouse. As you know, my husband is also a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor. We too have been together since 1974.
I can’t imagine the pain you feel. Every time I think of the sudden loss of your dear Susan tears fill my eyes. My heart just aches for you.
