Theme Song

“History doesn’t repeat itself,
but it does rhyme.” Mark Twain

What rhymes in your life? Does your theme song have a good chorus? Do the verses in your ballad have a catchy melody?

Melody is, “a rhythmical succession of single tones producing a distinct musical phrase or idea.” Life is a succession of single moments we can arrange to produce a memorable pattern or impression.

I agree with N. T. Wright who suggests we are spiritually tuned to resonate with certain melodies:

  • the delight in beauty
  • the longing for justice
  • the quest for spirituality
  • the hunger for relationships

If these themes are present we are making music worth playing and sharing. If not, we’re out of tune.
