Chemo Savvy

Thanks for all the prayers and positive energy sent my way. I’m done with the first week of chemo and glad to report there are no toxic side effects. Looks like I will keep my ponytail and most major brain funktons. The vestigial tail is a little annoying but I’ll get used to it.

There are six cycles in this clinical trial and after that a probable bone marrow transplant but we’ll cross that chasm when we come to it.

  1. Mike, we started our cancer journey together about a month apart in 2008. Your words then gave me encouragement and hope. My prayers and hopes are with you now as you deal with yet another curve in the road!

    1. Well, knock on wood things have been OK, and I am truly thankful for that. I don’t think I’ll ever not be waiting for the other shoe to drop. I think that has been the worst part for me.

I am in leadership course at work and was asked to provide an inspirational quote. I hope you don’t mind, but I quoted you:

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger—until something stronger kills you. In the mean time: cherish your family, enjoy old friends, make new ones, seek God and pray he finds you.”

That reminds me that life is finite and one needs to enjoy every day and every thing and not sweat the small stuff. For me, as an engineering type, understanding that things don’t always play out as planned or desired despite the best attempts was difficult until this journey started. Living in the moment was always a struggle for me, so I remember your words to keep me on track.

I am wishing you the best, Mike. Keep the faith, and you are in our prayers.

      1. I know what you mean about the other shoe. George Carlin said once you get cancer you’re always in the waiting room. Glad to hear you’re making the most of your time. Thanks for the prayers.
