Cindy and I have come up with sayings throughout our relationship; a sort of shorthand for how we want to approach life. When we first got married it was, “More to come.” I also used to tell Cindy, “I have a plan,” which I learned to modify to “I have a suggestion,” and finally, “I have an idea.” That version works much better.

In 2016, the year of my second bone marrow transplant and slow recovery, my catchphrase was, “Don’t hurt me.” This year I turned 65 and after enduring two more surgeries I adopted the last phrase on my physical therapy worksheet: “No restrictions, as comfort allows.”

We are looking forward to new adventures in 2018—and a new catchphrase.
